Chris Davies, MEP, said: "I benefit financially from the European Parliament's financial arrangements, but I don't agree with all of them. Even though some significant reforms are now being made they remain extravagant and open to abuse. The pay and expenses of MEPs should be set by an independent body, not by MEPs themselves. Money for staff should go to staff. Money for running an office should be used for that purpose. Allowances should be fixed so far as possible, with no leeway for adding to them.

"Above all, every MEP should be required to publish details of all money they receive from public sources. Opening up the expenses regime to public scrutiny in every EU member state offers the best hope of building political support for reform."
